In turn, this translates to more physical preparedness in tasks outside the gym rather than simply getting bigger for getting bigger’s sake. Plus, it keeps things interesting and always gives you something to work on. (Muscle ups someday) • The community: Folks come to the gym to improve and it’s really inspiring (if not infectious) to be surrounded by such strong, goal-oriented people. Since everything we do is modifiable, everyone has the opportunity to progress along their own journey and there are few things more rewarding than sharing in the progress of friends. It’s also nice to know you aren’t hurting alone. :’) Favorite Movement: My favorite lift is deadlift. My favorite calisthenic is burpees. My favorite cardio is running (but also the assault bike but also I might be sick in the head). Fun Fact: I like wearing donut themed merchandise more than I like eating donuts. It’s always different and you get to improve on every aspect of fitness (strength, gymnastic, endurance, high intensity, etc etc.) all in a 60 minute class. 2) Through CrossFit, I’ve met the most amazing people that I want to hang out with everyday for the rest of my life. And I’ve found this to be true no matter where I travel around the world. Favorite Movement: I never have a good answer for this. Every movement is always hard. I’m “better” at some movements than others, but it doesn’t mean I necessarily like them. Maybe heavy-ish snatch? It requires a combination of technique, strength, mobility, and explosive power. But that changed when I joined CFPR.       <image:caption>GROUP CLASS COACH Credentials: NASM AFAA Certified Group Fitness Instructor Why I Love Functional Fitness: So I have two main answers to this question:  One: It’s awesome that all you have to do is show up and someone else has come up with the programming that needs to be done. They keep it varied and interesting, which helps prevent falling into a routine where you are just doing the same thing over and over. This keeps things interesting and also forces your body to be constantly adapting to new stimuli, which is highly effective for building and maintaining fitness. Two: I think the group setting is great because not only do you get to make friends with cool, new people, but they also can hold you accountable and I think it’s just more motivating to be in a group setting. I also have a bit of a competitive personality and find it highly motivational to be surrounded by others who are sharing the pain !  Favorite Movement: I think my favorite overall type movements are gymnastics on the bar and the rings. Getting muscle ups was a really fun journey and I also just really like the idea of body weight exercises. Hopefully a strict muscle up is in my future someday! Close runner-up goes to clean and jerks. It is such a complex movement that is fun to work on and feels like something you can continue making progress on almost forever in pursuit of doing it perfectly.  Fun Fact: The world record beer mile is 4:28 which is insane</image:caption>

      <image:caption>CFPR’s Youth classes teach kids fundamental functional fitness movements, but with a focus on form and fun! Functional fitness can help your already super-sporty child be stronger, faster and more agile. It can also help build confidence and body awareness in children who aren’t active in sports. In each class we’ll work on bodyweight movements like squats, plank holds and burpees, and gymnastics movements like pull-ups and handstands against the wall. Older children (middle-school age) will begin weighted movements like back squats, deadlifts and overhead presses (starting with extremely light PVC pipes, then slowly moving up in weight after they’ve established good form).
